Made in El Salvador, the Condor Rodan is a no frills working knife from Condor Tool and Knife. Condor makes some good gear at a reasonable price. This may be a little bulky for some, but for a little more than $20 bucks, I added it to my inventory. check it out here

Magnum Elk Hunter - a great value.

Well, found another knife that I just had to buy... that seems to be happening to me a lot lately. Boker sends me their catalog every once in a while, and I dont know how they do it, but when I see that thing in the mailbox, I just know I'm getting a new knife.
The boker catalog is knife porn, I read it cover to cover about 5 times in the first day or two I get it.... ANYWAY... let me get to the point... Magnum, which is Boker's "Cheaper" knife division has a section in the catalog, and they always have really compelling deals. I already own a couple of magnum folders, and was impressed enough with the value I got with them, that I decided to buy the Magnum Elk Hunter. Its a beautiful little fixed blade, and I'm pretty sure its going to see plenty of use. Check it out on the website at www.survival-gear-guide.com

Marble's Bolo Machete - Another steal.

I recently picked up (had delivered actually) a new Marble's machete. I love this thing... it's a workhorse, and a well made one at that. I guess in this day and age, I'm just not used to getting anything other than total crap for under $20, so the fact that this thing cost $14.99 just blows me away, that is with the sheath, and sharpening stone. The difference in this machete versus a run of the mill cheap steel machete is unreal...they are not even playing in the same league... and the hell of it is, a junk machete will still cost you ten bucks.

Colt tactical fighter - A lot of knife for under $20 bucks...

Colt Tactical Fighter with survival kit.

I recently picked up a "Colt Tactical Figher w/ survival kit"... just because my curiousity got the better of me. The price just seemed like a good deal, ($19.99) and I'm just a sucker for the Colt name. I bought it online, so I was expecting to be somewhat disappointed, having never handled the knife personally. When the knife arrived at my house, I opened the box and i have to say, I really like it.
The first thing that surprised me was the blade... this thing is a chunk of steel, a 3/16" thick, 5 1/2" blade. Its made from 8cr14 stainless steel, which from what I have read is not a bad steel, and used on most of the better knives coming out of china, as this does... The blade is full tang and has a lanyard hole at the back did I mention it was only $19.99 ?

The next thing that impressed me was just the overall quality feel to this knife, the handle, the sheath, the finish... its a good looking rig.
The balance is a little heavy in the handle but overall the knife feels pretty good in the hand, I wouldn't mind the handle being just a little thicker, with slightly more rounded edges, but again, this knife is under $20 bucks... so I'm just nitpicking.

The sheath is a black cordura type sheath, it has a double fastener securing the top of the handle, one velcro, and one twist type knob, this holds the knife in place securely, but also makes it a little cumbersome to remove from the sheath. The sheath is lined with a plastic liner to prevent the blade from cutting it. There are molle straps on the back, and a cord at the bottom to secure the sheath to your leg.

The "Survival Kit":
The sheath of the Colt tactical fighter has an exterior pocket which holds a "survival kit". It consists of some matches with a small piece of striker material, a fish hook with some line, a combination flashlight, compass, and whistle, and a band aid. Not a complete survival kit by any means, but it provides some fire building, signaling, naviation, and a means to catch some food, provided you are near a body of water with some fish in it. Just dont go injuring yourself any worse than a small cut, the first aid supplies are...well.... Did I mention this costs twenty bucks ? The little survival kit only takes up about half the space in the sheath pocket, so there is some room to add your own touch to it. I keep a separate survival kit(s) anyway, so I wouldnt be depending on this too much, but it was enough to peak my curiousity enough to buy it, and I am not disappointed.
